ROTARY Support for 2014

Posted by ROADwhyz on August 19, 2014 at 5:10 AM Comments comments (0)

The ROADwhyz team would like to say a huge thanks to Madeleine Atkins, who in her role as District Governor Partner Rotary International Precinct 9670 has helped to raise $16000.00 for ROADwhyz in the past 12 months.

This has boosted our presence within the local community as well as securing us funds that will ensure we continue to deliver our program and especially our new initiative "Young Driver Merit Award" for quite some time to come.

The following Rotary clubs have supported Madeleines fund raising efforts and donated generously to the ROADwhyz cause:

Cessnock, Cessnock wine Country, Cobar, District Conference, Dubbo Macquarie, Dubbo West, Greenhill's Maitland, Kurri Kurri Sunrise, Maitland, Maitland Sunrise, Merriwa, NARROMINE, Newcastle Sunrise, Paterson, Singleton Diggers, Singleton on Hunter, Wallsend -Maryland, Waratah, Waratah Trivia night and Williamtown. :)

THANK YOU ROTARY

Road Safety Education - Research report findings

Posted by ROADwhyz on May 28, 2014 at 11:55 PM Comments comments (0)

The Keys2Drive program is a program similar to ROADwhyz and one in which we have been guest speakers on several occasions. A recent evaluation of the program has shown a nearly 50% reduction in crashes for those learners who do the K2D lesson. For details please see https://www.keys2drive.com.au/PDF/Keys2Drive_Report_FINAL_2013.pdf.

It is hard to find research that proves education improves road safety outcomes. So to find one that has proven to be effective is special.

Huge THANKS to Sternbeck's Real Estate Cessnock who have jumped on board our sponsorship program. Thanks for ensuring that 3 young people get 5 FREE lessons each setting them up for quality instruction and a great starting point to better driving.

Media campaigns and Motor Vehicles

BMW have just started running ads aimed at car buyers. The ads actually include a standing BMW car revving it’s engine as racing cars do – then it races of through the streets with tyres screeching. I rest my case!

DO YOU THINK THAT this irresponsible ‘new’ theme, is detrimental to road safety initiatives?

What can we do about the advertising industry?

A very big thank you to the member's of Maitland Rotary Club for contributing $1000.00 towards our 'Sponsorship program' this means they have contributed to helping at least 3 local students gain better skills and knowledge for driving by offering them a chance to have driving lessons with a fully qualified driving instructor for FREE. Thank you very much to Keith and the members for your ongoing support we look forward to a great year of supporting young drivers

New Ad Campaign - Don't trust your tired self

Campaign targets one of the road’s biggest killers

A new road safety campaign Don’t Trust Your Tired Self has been launched highlighting the serious risks of driving tired. Fatigue is one of the top three killers on NSW roads, along with speeding and drink driving. Figures show that last year 62 people died and almost 2,000 people were injured on our roads in fatigue-related crashes.

With the school holidays underway, it’s a timely reminder to take plenty of breaks. Copy and paste the link below to see the newest TV ad.

Final word for 2013

Posted by ROADwhyz on November 20, 2013 at 3:20 PM Comments comments (0)

Today ROADwhyz heads off to Xavier College in Newcastle on Thursday the 21st of November, approx 500 students will get a powerful 2 hour presentation.

This marks the teams last visit for 2013, the year started off a bit rocky with both Paul our Ambo and I having time off due to illness, the team got straight back into in May and have delivered 26 visits this year not bad for having 5 months off, this leads us to believe that we would have smashed our total from last year which was 31 visits.

We would like to thank everyone who continues to see the value in what we do and as such books us.

26 visits for 2013 means that on average we have delivered our message on 'Choice & Consequence' to approximately 3,380 students, if we have changed the mind set of just 1 in each school then our job is done.

We would also like to thank Rotary as they have been a huge support to us this year and will continue to be in 2014 with some great partnership projects to come, more on that later...we were also joined by Mel from VOCAL this year, Mel has been a vital component in our message teaching the students about self protection and looking after each other..

We look forward to presenting in 2014.

Again BIG thank you to all who helped with this year’s Spring Cruiz-in event held on the 20th October 2013 in which funds raised went to ROADwhyz.

The Spring Cruiz-in was a fabulous day with upward of 500 cars, motorbikes and other vehicles turning out to enjoy the biggest car cruise in NSW. The organizers within the Newcastle Restored Vehicle Club chose ROADwhyz as their charity of choice for this event and recently presented Peter Harman, one of the ROADwhyz team a cheque for $2000.00

The team at ROADwhyz would like to say a huge congratulations to the NRVC for organising such a wonderful event and seeing the value in what we do and supporting us so that we can continue to deleiver the road safety message to our young drivers.
